Information: Travel to Jena

By plane

  • International airports are in Frankfurt/Main, Berlin, or Munich. If you arrive at Frankfurt-Airport, it will be most convenient to travel on using an "Intercity Express (ICE)" train to Weimar. Intercity trains stop at the Airport Terminal 2. Change train in Weimar for a short (15 minutes) trip on the local train to Jena (total riding time about 3 hours). Arrival at Jena-West.
  • If you arrive in Berlin, use public transportation to get to the train station (Berlin Zoo). Take an "Intercity Express (ICE)" train to Jena-Paradies (riding time ca. 3 hours).
  • If you arrive in Munich, use public transportation to get to the train station (Munich Central Station). Take an "Intercity Express (ICE)" train to Jena-Paradies (riding time ca. 3 hours).
  • From European destinations you can book a flight to Leipzig. A shuttle service from the airport to Leipzig Central Station will be available. "Intercity Express (ICE)" connections from Leipzig to Jena-Paradies take about 1 hour. A direct shuttle service from Leipzig Airport to Jena is planned on the first day of the conference (and vice versa on the final day of the conference). By train

  • From North and South: the "Intercity Express (ICE)" connection Berlin-Munich stops at Jena-Paradies. Less than 10 minutes walking time to the conference site (Carl-Zeiss-Campus). Taxi cabs are available across the street.
  • From West and East: "Intercity Express (ICE)" connection Frankfurt-Dresden stops at Weimar Central Station. Change trains for a short (15 minutes) trip on the local train to Jena. Arrival at Jena-West, less than 10 minutes walking distance to the conference site (Carl-Zeiss-Campus). Taxi cabs are available in front of the station. "Interregio (IR)" trains connecting Aachen and Chemnitz stop directly at Jena-West.
  • Looking up train connections is possible at the online Travel Service website of the Deutsche Bahn.

By car

  • Coming from the East or West: Highway A 4 (Frankfurt/Main-Jena-Dresden). Take exit #54 (Jena-Lobeda) and turn left (North) to reach Jena city.
  • Coming from the North or South: Highway A 9 (Berlin-Munich). At the highway interchange Hermsdorf (#24) change to highway A4 to the West (heading towards Frankfurt/Main), take exit #54 (Jena-Lobeda). Turn left (North) to reach Jena city.
